Wireless Outdoor Speakers

Finally it is summer. You can sit outside, enjoy a few rays or maybe enjoy a tall cool one in the shade. But what do you do about the tunes?

Well you could move your indoor speakers and prop them in your window. Just don’t it below the window because if they are going to fall, and they will, they will fall on you. Or worse, you haul your best home speakers to the outside, tripping over the cable every time you go in and out. Well actually really, the worse thing is digging out your tinny sounding ghetto blaster and using it.

Why not consider outdoor speakers? Done the right way, they can look good (or look like a rock) and the sound quality is better than you think. With prices starting at less that $50 and extending through the roof, there is a set of outdoor speakers for everyone. Realize that indoor speakers can use walls to reinforce the low frequency end of your listening pleasure. Outside, you don’t have that benefit and usually there more background noise.

So when looking for wireless outdoor speakers, where do you start? Well, first you have consider durability. This includes being aware of what kind of weather is going to be beating on them. For the really good durable outdoor speakers, you will end up paying at least 15% to 25% more but it is well worth it. The next thing to consider is performance. How are they going to work in your outdoor conditions? The outdoors can have difficult sonic conditions making it difficult to provide good bass. So choose speakers with a good low end response.

One point to watch for is to make sure your amplifier can handle the extra speakers. The impedance needs to be confirmed to avoid damage to either your outdoor speakers or you expensive amplifier. Probably the last to considered, should be placement. Regardless of how tough you outdoor speakers are, most manufacturers strongly suggest that be placed in a protected location such as beneath an eave or under a deck cover. Finally, if you can, place them near a wall or other hard surface to improve bass response.
